Aquadome Inverness
The Aquadome in Inverness is a large indoor swimming pool complex located on the city's west side. We love to visit this swimming pool when we are travelling up to Dornoch or down to Aviemore; it's a great start to our holiday!
Aquadome offers:
-
A large wave pool with water geysers.
-
A lazy river.
-
A choice of three exciting flumes/waterslides.
-
A dedicated toddler pool with small slides and water features.
-
A family spa bath/jacuzzi with powerful bubble jets.
-
A separate 25 m / eight-lane competition pool for lane swimming.
Changing facilities
The changing rooms at Aquadome are unisex, but there are many spacious cubicles to get dressed in with lockable doors. There are family changing rooms too which are much bigger and include baby changing facilities. Underfloor heating keeps the changing rooms cosy.
Lockers are available to place your valuables; no key is required; you set your unique 4-digit code and lock the door.
At the far side of the changing area are a bank of six showers so you can wash before and after getting into the pool.
Inverness Leisure Pool
The leisure pool is perfect for children; the shallow side is only 0.3 m deep. There are signs towards the deeper end, and lifeguards will ask poor swimmers not to cross into the deeper water.
At frequent intervals, a klaxon will sound, and the wave machine will start; the waves are relatively powerful, and small children will need help. If you don't want to partake in the waves, the toddler pool is directly next to the main leisure pool.
The main leisure pool is a lot of fun; my kids love the waves and jumping in from the sides.
Family-sized spa bath
A family-sized spa bath is between the wave pool and the toddler pool. The spa bath has plenty of space to sit and enjoy the jacuzzi bubbles.
Flumes/water slides
Aquadome boasts three large waterslides; they can be seen protruding from the building from the outside. Despite our many visits to Aquadome, these slides have only been open on one occasion, and it seems to be quite erratic when they are open. If the slides being closed are a dealbreaker, I would phone ahead first (01463 667500) to save disappointment.
Lazy river
The lazy river section is only open at certain times/days; again, phone ahead to save disappointment. This faster section flows through a short circular circuit and can sometimes flow out into a thistle-shaped outdoor pool.
25-metre swimming pool
If you're looking for serious lane swimming, Aquadome has you covered with its standard 8-lane swimming pool. Interestingly it has a moveable floor to assist with the swimming lesson programme.
Inverness Leisure Centre
In addition to the fantastic swimming pools, Inverness Leisure Centre also offer the following:
-
A health suite/spa.
-
A gym.
-
A sports hall.
-
A studio.
-
A climbing wall.
-
A swimming lesson programme.
